Best Things to Do in Curaçao: A Local's Pick of What's Worth It

By Gosa team·Updated July 7, 2026

Colorful colonial waterfront of Handelskade in Willemstad, Curaçao

Curaçao rewards a mix. Spend a morning in the old town, an afternoon on a reef, a day driving the wild west end, and an evening eating local, and you have seen the real island. Here is what is worth your time, grouped so you can pick by mood.

Walk Willemstad

The capital is split by a channel into two old halves, Punda and Otrobanda, joined by the floating Queen Emma Bridge that swings open for ships. The Handelskade row of colored colonial houses is the postcard shot. It is walkable in a morning, and a guided walk fills in the history you would otherwise miss.

The Blue Curaçao you have seen in cocktails is made at Landhuis Chobolobo in town. The distillery tour is short, cheap, and pairs well with a Willemstad morning.

Get on the water

The reefs sit close to shore here, so snorkeling and diving are the main draw. If you would rather stay dry, a glass-bottom or half-day boat trip covers the coast without a mask.

For the best shore snorkeling without a tour, head to Playa Kalki, Playa Lagun, or Porto Mari. Our beaches guide covers which is which.

Drive the wild west

The west end is empty, dry, and dramatic: the crashing inlets at Shete Boka, the trails and high point of Christoffel park, flamingos at the salt pans, and the best beaches. It is a full day from town. Drive it yourself with a rental, or let a tour handle the long distances.

Eat like a local

Skip the resort buffets for a lunch at Plasa Bieu, the old market food hall where local cooks serve stewed goat, funchi, and fresh fish on shared benches for around 8 USD. A food tour is the fast way to taste a lot of it in one go.

For a proper dinner, our restaurants guide has the picks by area and budget.

Spend a day on the sand

You did not fly here to skip the beaches. The west coast has the coves and reef, the town beaches have the clubs and food. Full breakdown of all eight in the beaches guide.

Put these into a day-by-day Curaçao planStart

The trick with Curaçao is spacing. One town day, one beach day, one water trip, one west-end drive, and you are not doubling back across the island. If you would rather not work out the order yourself, Gosa can build a plan around the days you have.

Frequently asked questions

What is Curaçao best known for?

The colored colonial houses along the Handelskade waterfront in Willemstad, the snorkeling and diving on the west coast reefs, and beaches like Grote Knip and Cas Abao. The island is dry and sunny most of the year, so it is a beach and water destination more than a rainforest one.

What is there to do in Curaçao besides beaches?

Walk the two old town halves of Willemstad, Punda and Otrobanda, and cross the floating Queen Emma Bridge. Tour the Landhuis Chobolobo distillery where Blue Curaçao is made. Drive the west end to Shete Boka and Christoffel park. Eat at the Plasa Bieu food hall. Take a boat or snorkel trip.

How many days do you need in Curaçao?

Four to five days covers Willemstad, two or three beaches, and one boat or west-end trip without rushing. A week lets you add Klein Curaçao and slow down. See our Curaçao itinerary for a day-by-day plan.

Is Curaçao expensive for tourists?

Meals run from about 8 USD at the Plasa Bieu food hall to 30 to 45 USD per person at the fine dining spots. Most west coast beaches are free, a few charge 3 to 6 USD. Tours range from a 35 USD walking tour to 100 to 250 USD for private boat and ATV trips.
